Our Story
In 1998, a group of local physicians, cancer survivors, and community members recognized the immense needs for culturally tailored cancer resources for the Vietnamese community, where cancer was and is the top cause of death. In 2002, VACF officially received its 501(3)(c) status and has been an integrated part of the community ever since.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to aggravate the world, the past 2 years proved to be a tumultuous and unpredictable time not only for VACF, but for the whole community. However, due to the generous support of our steadfast donors, our hardworking VACF team devoted their time and efforts to help alleviate some of the burdens that our community members experienced during this difficult period. In 2021 alone, VACF distributed 88,023 PPE items that included masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers. Our team also successfully navigated 2,411 community members for COVID-19 testing and 6,141 members for COVID-19 vaccinations. VACF also welcomed a new monthly Food Distribution for our community members in need and a Food Pantry program for cancer patients and low-income families.
This year’s gala marks a special milestone for VACF, as we commemorate 20 years of service to the community as an independent non-profit organization, we know there is still much more to be done! Recently, VACF joined forces with other community partners to address mental health and the increasing number of hate crimes that have been disrupting our community.
With your help, we can continue serving the community that we love and will be one step closer to building a safer, healthier world for our future generations to come as we strive to continue to empower the community through outreach and education, early detection and screenings, patient navigation, and physical and emotional support for the community as a whole.
