TUBERCULOSIS (TB)

Tuberculosis is an airborne disease that can lead to lungs, kidney and spinal cord infection if left untreated. VACF is determined to help the Vietnamese community expand knowledge of ways to prevent tuberculosis infection in order to protect yourself, your family, and especially younger generation through tuberculosis screenings.

LEARN MORE ABOUT TUBERCULOSIS 

According to the CDC, Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can be categorize into two conditions: latent TB infection (LTBI) and TB disease. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal. It is recommended that an individual get tested if they were born, have traveled, or lived in a countries with TB endemic for over a month. Including but not limited to Vietnam, Mexico, China, India, and Guatemala. Those who are immune-compromised or have been in close contact with someone who have active TB should also get tested.

According to the Pulmonary Disease Services of Tuberculosis in Orange County, individuals of Asian descent and who are 65 years of age or older are more susceptible to getting TB.

As of 2021, the most common ethnicity in Orange County with Tuberculosis are individuals of Vietnamese descent.
